Summer Programs

Summer Application (printable application) Summer Application (online application) Summer Program Schedule It may seem that summer will never get here, but it always does and more quickly than we can ever anticipate. Forget the rain and wind that threaten to send you flying as you hurry to class. Think sun. Think "no school work." Think Summer Workshop at the Dancing Arts Center. And think fast, because applications for placement are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. |
|
A summer workshop is a rare chance for dancers to focus on dance, uninterrupted by competing demands of school and other activities. Long days rich in dance, music, choreography, drama classes and the finer understanding of the body that comes from studying anatomy, physiology and nutrition combine for a powerful experience. Dancers learn about costume design, stage-craft, dance history, and experiment with their own creative ideas. Videos of classic and little-known dance performances connect students with dancers worldwide. Intermediate and Advanced dancers also take classes in classical ballet, pointe, jazz, modern, repertoire, flamenco and other character dance, learn advanced stage makeup and present an end-of-workshop performance in the studio theater. And when it's time for a break, dancers of all ages relax with picnics on the lawn and massage workshops. It's a perfect way to make new friends, work hard on skills, learn something new and make summer count for something spectacular. So, send your deposit of $100 along with a completed application today. Current DAC students will be accepted without audition. New students are accepted by audition on a first-come-first served basis. Due to the high demand of students wishing to be accepted in DAC summer programs and the limited enrollment, we suggest you apply as soon as possible. Returning students are given first priority, but as of February 1st, BOTH new and returning student registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. A limited number of spaces are available for each group. |

Outreach Programs
The Dancing Arts Center is glad to offer dance programs for community organizations: These programs can be offered for a 6 week introductory basis or longer. After the first session, follow up sessions can be added. Our fee is $50 per hour as we supply all equipment and insurance. Feel free to contact me to shape the program to your program’s needs.
The Dancing Arts Center’s outreach teaching experience is extensive. In addition to the Dancing Arts Center in Holliston, the list includes: Joy of Movement Center, Edgebrook School, Hudson Youth Center, Margaret Davitt Children's Center, Framingham Park and Recreation, Holliston Extended Day, Millis Extended Day, Dover/Sherborn Extended Day, Wayland Park and Recreation, Holliston Community Day Center, Next Generation Nursery School, Medfield Park and Recreation, and (yes) Pincushion Montessori School.
Creative Dance can be combined to include all 3 - 7 year olds in one class or differentiate according your school’s groupings. Creative movement is a special program of one or two classes per week for young boys and girls, who love to run, jump slide, spin and swing to music. Please see our general course description and faculty biography accompanying this letter.
The curriculum presents and explores the following (with attention to detail and complexity at every advancing age):
- Body parts: whole and isolated body parts, leading and initiating with a part.
- Time: quick, slow, clock time, and rhythmic time.
- Space and pathways: personal, general space, air and floor designs, direct, indirect, straight, twisted, bent, narrow and wide
- Directions: toward floor, ceiling, walls and distance.
- Levels and direction of focus: high, middle, and low.
- Weight: heavy, light, strong, gentle, tense, and relaxed.
- Locomotion: walk, leap, run, hop, jump, skip, gallop, stride, slide, and roll.
- Action: thrust, slash, press, wring, float, flick, tap, and glide.
- Flow: sudden, sustained, successive, simultaneous, bound, and free.
- Shape and size: drawing shapes in space, becoming shapes.
- Awareness of others: partners, groups: large and small.
All possible progressions include: march, skip, jump, tip toe (all forward, backward, and turning), side gallops, leaps, free dance, prop use, instrumental use: beat, accent, tempo, duration, and patterns.
Modern Dance for ages 6 – adult is another good option for community outreach classes. It is an eclectic curriculum that draws from and builds on the styles and philosophies of modern dance pioneers. Improvisation is an essential aspect of our modern classes, providing students with opportunities to explore the subtleties of movement dynamics, dimension, and quality. Choreography and composition analysis are natural outgrowths of improvisational projects.
Please fill out the enclosed request form if you are interested in an inspiring dance program for your school.
