School-Wide Peek Week January 18th-23rd |
For the week of January 18-23rd, you don't need to steal glances through the studio windows to get an idea of what's going in any class!Instead, come on in, have a seat, listen to the teacher, andask questions to yourheart's content during this school-widepeek week for all Youth andMain Divisionclasses.
During this special week, the dance teachers show you what the students have been working on for the first half of the dance year, to explain their goals and expectations for the class, and to answer any questions you have about the training.
This once-a-year opportunity should be taken full advantage of, even if your child begs you not to attend. Peek Week isn't for students; it is for the parents to observe and gain glimpses of the world that has so captured their children's passion and imagination.Even if your child isn't crazy about you being there, or is mortified that you brought a camera, the teachers appreciate your time, attention, and questions.

Dear Karyn Edison,
|

The start of the New Year gives us hope for better times to come. The staff at the Dancing Arts Center (DAC) looks forward to sharing it with you.
Read all the way to the bottom of this newsletter to be sure you are up to date with everything....including a coupon for you! Then forward it to a friend.
DAC will continue its full spectrum of classes for children, teens and adults.
For our young students, our Sunday Theme workshops and Fairy Princess
Tea Party are sure to peek the imagination and inspiration of the children, and compliment their weekly class.
For our emerging dancers, the Academy (day school) looks ahead with an annual open house for prospective and current families, and the Ensemble opens to emerging dancers with auditions for the Spring tour and concert.
For our teens and adults, all technique classes, plus Tone and ballroom classes begin again. Start the New Year right. Dance for your mind, body and spirit! |
Spring Ensemble Auditions for Tour and Concert
|
Each year the annual Spring Concert includes a full demonstration of each department'swork, including every level of dancer of the main division. In addition, the concert includes jazz, modern, and ballet pieces created for the dancers who are selected from the Spring Ensemble audition. All advanced beginner through advanced intermediate dancers are encouraged to put their best foot forward for the audition on Saturday, January, 9th from 2:30-4:30. A short parent information will follow the auditions from 4:30-5:00.
Both the concert and touring companies of the Dancing Arts Ensemblewill be selected at this audition. Both Ensembles will perform in the upcoming Spring Concert on June 12th, but beginning in April, the touring company will performat local area nursing homes such as St. Patrick's Manor, Mary Ann Morse Nursing Home, Marlboro Hills and several others. In addition, selected ensemble pieces will be performed at community dance events and festivals, such as Charles River Dance Festival, Little Night Dancing, and the Children's Dance Festival.
Participation in the Dancing Arts Ensemble requires a level of commitment above and beyond regular classes and rehearsals. Those who have participated in the past can attest that the extra time and commitment is well worth it when they see the smiling faces of their audiences from the nursing home seniors to mainstream America, and hear their praises for brightening their day.

Dancing Arts Academy Open House
|
What is the Dancing Arts Academy? Is it the right fit for my child and our family? How can I find out more? You can get answers to these and any other questions you have by attending the Dancing Arts Academy Open House for students and parents on Tuesday, January 19th from 6:30-8:30 PM at the Dancing Arts Center, 9 Whitney Street, Holliston. All local families of current 3rd-11th graders are invited to inquire about acceptance for the academic year 2010-2011. An overview of the school will be presented, with opportunities to break out into grade-level discussions with current parents and students.
Dancing Arts Academy is a day school for promising dancers in grades 4 through 12. Its unique combination of world-class dance training in classical ballet and contemporary dance with supervision of family-chosen curricula gives aspiring dancers the opportunity to immerse themselves in their art form, control their academic schedule, and explore whether a professional career in dance is really what they would like to pursue. The earlier a student invests in such opportunities the more likely the success, as physiological development of the neurological and muscular patterns is time sensitive.
Satisfy your curiosity. Come to the open house with an open mind and you will be amazed! For more information, click here

Sunday Theme Workshop for 3-9 year olds |
Once a month from Octoberthrough May, DAC holds a 2-hour workshop based on the ballet of the month to help children grow up with an understanding of the classics. The event is centered around dancing to the music of the ballet. Participants enjoy hearing the story, followed by viewing an excerpt from the video, more dancing, a healthy snack, and a craft project to make the experience complete.
Augment your child's lessons with these workshops and invite your friends and neighbors, too. Upcoming workshops include The Ice Skaters, Petroushka, Firebird, Swan Lake, and Copelia. For more information, and a detailed schedule click here.
DAC students receive 10% off the cost of the workshops. |
Summer Dance Workshops are Right Around the Corner!
|
Even though the holidays have just ended and it's still cold outside, it's not too early to be thinking about what to do with your dancer this summer. While everyone needs a break and a change of pace, too much time away from dance will cause your dancer and everyone around her/him to suffer. Thankfully, DAC has planned an exciting and engaging dance-filled summer for your child.
Students who dance in the summer return in the fall with more confidence and in better shape than those who take the whole summer off. Self-esteem, class placement, and casting in the Holiday Concert are all affected positively. To make the most of of your investment in child's dance education, keep your child dancing this coming summer. Information packets are available at the front desk and will be emailed to currently enrolled students right after the first of the year. Enrollment is limited, priority is given to current students who enroll by February 1st. For more information, click here
